Founded in Bodmin in 1793 as the Cornwall Agricultural Society, the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association, as it has been known since 1858, boasts a long and proud tradition of agricultural promotion and tradition. The first event, staged in September 1793, consisted of a ploughing match near the Red Lion Inn in Truro. The following year saw prizes for livestock being added to the awards on offer. Although based in the then county town of Bodmin in North Cornwall from 1793 to approximately 1827, competitions were often also held in various other parts of the county.
Apart from breaks during the two wars, the show was to be staged on the above basis until 1960 when the Royal Cornwall Showground at Wadebridge became its permanent home. It’s the county’s biggest annual event and is brim-full of exhibits and activities which offer so much in the way of entertainment, competition, information, shopping and all that’s best in food and farming.
It's a time and place to meet old friends, conduct business, enjoy Cornwall in all its glory and to welcome thousands of visitors from outside our county. This is our 223rd year and our aim is to keep raising the standard. It's good for agriculture, good for tourism, good for the economy, the environment and good for the soul!
Back in 2015 the showground had an idea to provide HD CCTV coverage throughout the showground site in Wadebridge. This would be for Health & Safety reasons due to the size and scale of the show. he main issue being to get power to the cameras as there was not the infra structure on the site, cabling the site which is over 95 acres..
We came up with a solution of wirelessly linking the cameras to the main control centre on site, via ubiquity wireless links. The electrician was able to provide permanent power for most of the cameras and a temporary supply via batteries and solar for the rest. After many meetings and working out the logistics we came up with a plan for installation of fully functional Hik Vision cameras via Ubiquiti Air Fibre.
We would also provide an on-site technical team throughout the three days of the show.
The system performed well above expectations with the Police, Highways, Security and the Ambulance trust using all aspects of the systems. Due to the the performance the client decided to us the system on a perminant nature to cover the 40 plus events the showground host annually.
